Whatever the Weather… Christian Endeavour !!!

We always used to finish our Junior C.E. meeting with the response call- Leader: “Whatever the weather…” Children shout back: “Christian Endeavour!” It was good fun and the children loved it. They knew at this point the meeting was over but, come what may, we would be there again the following week. Our outing to Windermere on Saturday 24th September was good fun and we all loved it but ‘What weather!’

There were 28 of us that braved the misty cloud and damp drizzle and met up at 10:30a.m. at Ambleside Pier. A quick look around told us it would be foolish to venture up onto the heights of Jenkin’s Crag and Stockghyll Falls, so we made a decision to head South on the ‘Swan’ to Bowness. This was well received and once on board coffee and biscuits all round… lovely!

A fabulous trip warm and dry… although some of us ventured out on deck, wrapped up against the wind and rain.

In Bowness the party split - some went to the shops and cafes whilst the brave hardy went for the promised walk – albeit scaled down. We walked along the Glebe and round Cockshott Point to Ferry Nab. Not far but enough in the conditions! Then, the rain stopped and we had our picnic lunch overlooking the lake. A gentle stroll took us back to meet up with the shoppers and board the launch for our second boat trip to Brockhole Visitors Centre.

The younger folk enjoyed the fantastic facilities on the adventure playground and then made their way up to the house to join in with the afternoon tea. The indoor play area was certainly a big hit with the toddlers, whilst others viewed the Lake District on screen and browsed in the gift shop and exhibition area.

We boarded our third boat of the day, a traditional wooden launch, which took us back to Waterhead, Ambleside. By this time the weather had certainly improved and we were able to sit outside and enjoy our fish and chip supper overlooking the Northern end of Windermere and the Langdale Fells, complete with a beautiful sunset. These days of social activities have brought all ages together; from 2 years old to 82 and all ages in between. We have enjoyed each others company and had fellowship along the way. God has richly blessed us.

Look out for our next venture in the Spring – come and join us- whatever the weather… Christian Endeavour!
